Selena Gomez Filmed a Lighthearted Cooking Show for HBO Max (& Viewers Will Get a Rare Glimpse of Her New Home)

Selena Gomez has been using this time of social distancing to master her skills in the kitchen. So, it was only a matter of time before she launched her very own cooking show…with a quarantine spin.

The “Lose You to Love Me” singer, 28, just announced that she filmed an all-new cooking show with HBO Max, Selena + Chef. The series takes place in Gomez’s kitchen as she video chats with professional chefs, who walk her through a series of elaborate recipes.

In a statement, the actress revealed that her goal in creating Selena + Chef is to bring a smile to people’s faces.

“I don’t do anything I don’t want to, of course, but life gives me so many different challenges, and I just really thought this would be something light-hearted, because I was getting definitely down,” she said. “I know that there is a lot going on—and of course there’s more important things going on—but this was an opportunity to make something that could make people smile.”

Gomez also warned fans that it’s not a serious cooking show, adding, “I hope you’re gonna laugh because I look like a fool. I wanted to do this simply because I love cooking, I just don’t know how to do it all the time.”

The musician also confirmed that Selena + Chef will offer a never-before-seen glimpse of her new house. “I have a very difficult time doing that, because as much as I enjoy my position, I just definitely try to keep more of a private life, but this was different for me,” Gomez explained. “I was actually really excited because I just moved into my home, and that’s my new kitchen in the show, so basically I hadn’t officially moved in yet.”

Selena + Chef followed all social distancing guidelines, since she chatted with the guests over Zoom. The crew even worked remotely, making it a true one-woman show.

Selena + Chef will hit HBO Max on August 13. Cue the viral cooking fails.
