Selena Gomez Enters a Mental Health Facility for Anxiety and Depression

Earlier this year, Selena Gomez completed a two-week program for anxiety and depression—and following recent health obstacles, she has reportedly re-entered treatment at the same psychiatric facility in New York City.

Purportedly, Gomez suffered an apparent “emotional breakdown” following two hospitalizations within the last few weeks related to her ongoing battle with Lupus and last year’s life-saving kidney transplant. She was first hospitalized when her white blood cell count became increasingly low, and was readmitted a few days later for the same issue, which can be common for those with active Lupus symptoms.

It’s said that Gomez, who spent time at an Arizona facility in 2014 and canceled legs of her “Revival” tour in 2016 for treatment, will receive dialectical behavior therapy, which seeks to regulate emotions and help patients cope with stress, during her time at the mental health facility.

The news comes just weeks after Gomez took to Instagram to announce she’d be taking a "step back" from social platforms in light of critical comments directed at her. "As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” she wrote. “Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember—negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings."

Continuing to take control of her health, there’s no doubt, Gomez, who has always been candid about her personal struggles and passionate about raising awareness around mental health issues, will come out of this stronger than ever.
