Selena Gomez Clarified Her Comments About "Signing [Her] Life Away To Disney" After It Raised Some Eyebrows

Selena Gomez wants to make something very clear: She doesn’t regret her Disney Channel career.

The singer raised a lot of eyebrows when she previously joked that she “signed [her] life away” to Mickey Mouse and “didn’t know exactly what [she] was doing” at a young age.

However, she recently clarified those comments during an interview with RadioTimes.

While speaking about her new show, Only Murders in the Building, Gomez said, “And by the way, I’m beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way.”

Nice save! Gomez also mentioned that she “definitely” didn’t have any reluctance about returning to Disney and TV to film Only Murders in the Building.

The Walt Disney Company is the majority owner of Hulu, and Gomez’s new show will air on the streaming platform on Aug. 31.

When Gomez originally made those comments about “signing [her] life away to Disney,” a lot of people were concerned for the actor. However, Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin says that no one should feel that way because Gomez was just joking in the first place.

“I have to jump in because I was there when Selena said that [at the TCA] and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way,” Martin explained to RadioTimes.

“Sometimes they’ll say she was joking, and sometimes they have it as an ominous headline — but it was completely just all in fun.”

Gomez also talked about her time on Wizards of Waverly Place and said that she was treated very well on set.

“I have to say, I’m very lucky,” she gushed. “As a female in my position, I was taken care of and I’ve only had lovely experiences, so I’m grateful for that.”
