For the past couple of weeks, queen, icon, IT girl, Selena Gomez has been teasing fans on the gram in the lead-up to her latest single release. And with the drop of the new track on 25 August, titled Single Soon (which FYI, we're already obsessed with), it can only mean one thing - Selena is gearing up for a whole new musical era.
So far, the 30-year-old has confirmed that she's set to release her fourth studio album sometime soon. But while she's yet to give away the title of her newest body of work, there's one thing we can absolutely be sure of: it's going to be 🔥🔥🔥
With that, here's everything you need to know about Selena Gomez's new album, from what it's about to its potential release date...
What will the album be about?
Back in February, Selena spoke to Vanity Fair about all things new music. During the interview, she revealed that if she had it her way, she "would probably write ballads [her] whole life," but for her new releases, she wanted to "produce music that will make people smile."
"The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through," she said.
"It’s really powerful, strong, very pop. The theme generally is freedom - freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness."
What's the new album called?
Like we said, so far, there's no word of any album title just yet. However, from Selena's Vanity Fair piece, we do know that its general theme will focus on freedom, power and strength. Plus, being more uplifting and 'poppy' than her previous offerings. With this in mind, we can only assume that the album title will be in keeping with such topics.
However, we do know that her last three albums/EPs have all started with the letter 'R' (see: Revelación, 2021, Rare, 2020, Revival, 2015) so it wouldn't be that wild if her new album did the same.
Is there a tracklist for the new album?
Nope. Unfortunately, it seems Sel is keeping her cards pretty close to her chest right now. Which means - apart from Single Soon, which she described as a "perfect end to summer" - we're still in the dark when it comes to the rest of the tracks.
One thing we do know is that in 2022, she confirmed in her Rolling Stone cover story that she had written 24 songs for the album. Eek!
Is there a release date for the new album?
So far, there's no release date for the album. But due to Single Soon just dropping, it's likely we'll get to hear the album before the end of the year. (Fingers crossed!) Before the, we can probably expect a couple more singles to whet our appetites before the big reveal finally drops.
