See How Christina Anstead Expertly Mixes Rustic and Modern Styles Together in Christina on The Coast
The newest episode of Christina on The Coast shows us just how good Christina Anstead is at designing for clients-even with a tough task at hand. Her clients in episode four, Missy and Jesse, are actually already some of her close friends-talk about pressure! Christina's goal this week was to marry Missy's love of rustic style and Jesse's wish for a more modern home, and she didn't disappoint.
"If I let Jesse keep taking the reins, I feel like my master bedroom and bathroom will be really modern," Missy said. "That's like my sanctuary."
Of course, if anyone could find a happy medium between those two styles, it's Christina-but not without a little work.
"We're not arguing, but... we are." Missy revealed to Christina about the couple's dueling design ideas.
Christina's strategy to bring the two styles together included a barn door (obvi), wooden herringbone floors, and a great use of color and texture in the master bathroom to complement both styles.
The episode served as a lesson on how to change the tone of certain design elements with different colors and materials. Though the super rustic wall of shiplap and a barn door Christina selected might at first seem too farmhouse for the modern feel, the designer managed to give them both a modern twist: she hung the shiplap vertically and painted it black and used settle instead of a more rustic wood on the barn door. Talk about compromise!
