The 2019 Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday, and similarly to Cannes, this special event boasts the same red carpet must-haves: Models! And gowns! Great gowns, beautiful gowns! Of course, there are the anticipated films and talented actors who show up in their best ensembles, too, but let's be real: It's all about the fancy red carpet.

So far, the fashion bar is high. Iman arrived at the opening ceremony and screening of "La Vérité" (The Truth) in Valentino Couture — birds, feathers and all — straight from its Fall 2019 runway show in JulyCandice Swanepoel and Elsa Hosk wore slinky, custom Etro dresses that had a slight throwback vibe, and red carpet staples Alberta Ferretti and Armani Prive were spotted on a few lucky ladies as well.

While we keep up with the red carpet looks over the course of the festival, consider this your sartorial palate cleanser ahead of a street-style-heavy fashion month. See the best of 2019 Venice Film Festival fashion in the gallery below and continue checking back here for more.
