Prince William and Kate Middleton are undoubtedly extremely close to their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. However, it turns out there are some secrets they do keep from their little ones, particularly their eldest child Prince George, age 7.

But don't worry; it's all for George's own benefit. As Prince George is third in line to the throne, following his grandfather Prince Charles who's first in line, and his father Prince William who is second in line, the Cambridges have reportedly chosen to protect George as much as possible from feeling the huge responsibility that his future holds. I.e. the fact that he's going to be the future King.

It's been reported that William and Kate want to try to give George a normal life before he fully understands that he will be the King one day.

Royal author Catherine Mayer, who wrote Charles: The Heart of a King, reportedly told E! News, "With George they are trying to delay that moment of realisation and give him normality before they thrust this on him."

However, George will of course already have started to understand his future by watching the work that his family members do.

As Mayer adds, "But it will be, nevertheless, part of his upbringing both in terms of what he sees his parents and grandparents doing and probably quite soon a beginning of an understanding that he is in public life and what that means."

William and Kate's choice to delay George's understanding of what it means to be a future King reportedly stems from William's own experience of realising what was in store for him at a young age.

William and Harry have apparently been aware of their future roles from a young age, with Harry reportedly once telling William, "You'll be king one day, I won't. Therefore I can do what I want!" according to a former royal protection officer, Ken Wharfe.

Meanwhile, William has previously told the BBC how he and Kate have tried to keep George's family environment normal before George gains a fuller understanding of his future.

"There'll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world. But right now it's just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as a father," the Duke of Cambridge explained.
