The Secret Trick to Making Your $10 Bottle of Wine Taste Like $100

While we can’t always detect the notes of charcoal and asparagus on a wine’s finish (sorry, sue us), we can always taste the difference between a $10 bottle and a $100 bottle.

Well, what if we said that you could make a cheapie bottle taste like a special-occasion bottle...in 30 seconds flat...using a kitchen appliance you already own?

Recently, over a meal with some of our hardcore wino friends, one connoisseur revealed a surprising trick: “hyper-decanting” inexpensive bottles of vino by giving it a 30-second swirl in the blender.

But why? The basic idea behind decanting is that wine needs to be exposed to oxygen so the tannins and compounds that make it “rough” to drink get broken down. And while you can achieve this several ways (see: uncorking and letting it breathe or using an actual decanter), this blender trick does the same thing—just faster and more aggressively.

After testing it ourselves, we’re happy to report that it yielded a much fuller, smoother and yes—splurgier-tasting sip. Cheers, friends.
