Olivia Rodrigo Is Giving Us Butterflies In Her Stunning Versace Met Gala Look

Is that a fairy butterfly queen goddess I’m seeing?

No. It’s just my favorite Y2K punk icon Olivia Rodrigo. The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter proved that she, in fact, also owns the color purple by stunning us all in a Versace ensemble fit for any fairytale.

She paired the gorgeous gown with a pair of gloves that even Lady Whistledown herself would approve of, and topped the look with butterflies strewn about her long, crimped hair. It was a complete serve from head to toe. Everything about it—the violet eyeshadow, the thigh-high slit and the crystal clutch—had us trying (but failing) to pick our jaws up off of the floor.

Man, we are lucky to be witnesses to fashion’s biggest night.

ICYMI, the theme is part two of last year’s “A Lexicon of Fashion” and is celebrating the Gilded Age, aka the time period between 1870 and 1900. Think Bridgerton vibes. Boobs, bustiers and corsets, plus collars, gloves and bodices. Vogue says tonight is all about celebrating inclusivity in American fashion. I still don’t really have a clue what Lexicon means, so I’m just going to associate it now with Olivia and her voluminous locks.

She wasn’t the only star to opt for gravity-defying hair. Kaia Gerber also showed off curls that shot to the moon. And let’s not forget about the queen of New York herself, Blake Lively, who shut the house down with a costume change while reminding us all that there’s no occasion that a crown isn’t fit for.

Of course all of Twitter agreed that Miss Rodrigo sleighed the house down.

This year’s look is pretty different than Olivia’s first Met Gala ensemble, which was an edgy pop-punk nod that took us back to the ’90s in the best way possible. The all-black feathered ensemble paired with chainlink earrings and cuffs and sky-high heels made us grateful for our contact lenses, because, without our 20/20 vision, we would not be able to see every fine detail.
