And there's nothing worse than pulling the pint out of the freezer only to find that what was previously a carton of sweet, delicious ice cream is now a frosty, freezer burned mess. According to Delish, the expert ice cream makers at Ben & Jerry's know exactly how to keep your ice cream fresh, and the secret to avoiding freezer burn is actually very simple—all you need to do is flip the dessert upside down in the freezer.

Yes, it really is that simple. Storing your ice cream upside down, the brand says, "causes the melted ice cream to drip onto the lid where it has less chance of ruining the still-cold portion." So while your lid might be a little messier than usual, you'll never have to worry about icy chunks on top of your ice cream again.

They have some other advice for ensuring you get to enjoy every last bite of ice cream in the carton, too. Ben & Jerry's suggests that all ice cream fanatics double check your freezer temperature (it should be below zero degrees Fahrenheit) and recommend always storing your pints and cartons in back of the freezer so it can stay cold. If the ice cream is too cold after you take it out, simply leave it out on your counter to let it thaw out for a few minutes before you attempt to get anything out.

While it's pretty common to scoop ice cream when you want to eat the treat, Ben & Jerry's recommends using a large serrated knife and cutting your carton. The brand notes that this will limit the time it will spend out of the freezer—and the disc-like appearance will work nicely for ice cream sandwiches, too. After you've gotten your helping, cover the carton with wax paper, parchment paper, or plastic wrap before adding the lid back on.
