Netflix reveal exciting details about Heartstopper season 3

Hello, Heartstopper! Our favourite LGBTQ+ series is officially back for its second season as we rejoin Nick, Charlie, Elle and the rest of our favourite Truham and Higgs students again for more romance, friendships and high school drama.

The Netflix series is based on Alice Oseman's best-selling graphic novels and see teenagers Nick and Charlie, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor, turn from friends to lovers (our favourite trope) while dealing with sexuality, friendships, secondary school and more.

Now season two has dropped, fans are already eager to hear more news about a third season. So, from the cast to potential storyline to the cast and more, here's what you need to know about Heartstopper season three.

What will happen in Heartstopper season 3?

Netflix have shared an exciting, new detail about season three that have sent fans wild.

On Twitter on 4th September, Netflix posted that the first episode of the new season will be titled 'love'. "Heartstopper Season 3. Episode 1. Love. That’s all we can tell you for now - but we’ll be back, as will Nick and Charlie," they wrote. Does this mean Nick and Charlie finally say 'I love you' to each other? We need to know!

Creator Alice Oseman has also teased the plot for season three in a major way. Speaking to Metro on 5th August, they said: "People who have read the books will know that there’s a lot of stuff we haven’t yet covered in volume four, which is out now, but there’s also going to be volume five, which is coming out in December, and there’ll be a volume six as well.

"So, there’s a lot of story left for the show to go into season three," they continued. "In season two we’ve started to explore mental health in a big way, and I think it’s pretty obvious from the way we leave the season that is going to be a big element of season three.

“We’re going to continue to look at that in a big way and explore how that affects Nick and Charlie’s relationship, and all of the other friendships in the show. So people who’ve read volume four will have a little bit of an idea of what is coming." So exciting!

We also know that we'll be saying goodbye to Ben Hope, played by Sebastian Croft. At the end of season two, Ben attempts to reconcile with Charlie but he chooses not to forgive him, with Ben revealing he'll be moving away.

"I know that [Sebastian] will go on to do incredible things, and I will be cheering from the sidelines all the way," Alice told Radio Times. Aw!

When was Heartstopper season 3 confirmed?

On May 20, 2022, Netflix announced that Heartstopper would be back for not one, but two more seasons.

Based on the storylines in season two, we can expect season three to adapt Alice Oseman's more of the fourth volume of their graphic novel series, which sees Charlie and Nick go to college as well as introduce new characters and themes. Oh, we can't wait.

Who will be in the Heartstopper season 3 cast?

Going by Alice's graphic novels, we could expect the majority of the main cast to return for a third season, including:

• Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent

Again, Sebastian Croft will not be returning as Ben Hope as his character has moved away.

Heartstopper season 3 release date speculation

The first season of Heartstopper was released on 22 April 2022, and the second on on 3 August 2023. Following this pattern, we can hope season three will be released just over a year after season two, so fingers crossed that Heartstopper season three will drop on Netflix around September 2024.
