If you're anything like us, you've already binge watched Netflix's gritty new drama, Bodies, and are dying to know about a second season.

The series follows four detectives in different time periods – 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053 – who discover the exact same body, and begin to unravel a mystery spanning decades as they try to catch the killer.

Now, with that ending, we need to know if there will be more episodes. So, from the potential cast to what series creator Paul Tomalin has to say, here is everything we know about season two of Netflix's Bodies.

Will there be a season 2 of Bodies?

Sorry to be the one to break the bad news, but it's not looking likely we'll be getting another series of Bodies.

Series creator and writer Paul Tomalin has revealed he wrote the show to be a limited series.

Speaking to Hello!, Tomalin said: "We went to Netflix like 'This is one series, this is a one and done, we wanna close this off' because I think when you have such an amazing concept up front, you [expletive] your audience off if you don't solve it."

He continued: "As the viewer, I hate it when you get this amazing thing. And at the end it's like, 'Duh, duh, duh', and you're like 'Right so I've got to wait a year and a half'."

That being said, Tomalin hasn't completely ruled out the show coming back for a second season.

"The characters were brought to an end," he told Cosmopolitan UK. "But that being said, if it's a ridiculous hit and people are storming Netflix [for more], we left that ellipsis just in case, with a very exciting idea that does justice to the set up and develops it further." Come on, Netflix!

What is Netflix's Bodies about?

The official synopsis reads, "Based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, Bodies is a police procedural with a twist. When a body – the same body – is found on Longharvest Lane in London's East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate.

"As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central. Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play?

"To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years."

Who might be in the cast of Bodies season 2?

We could expect pretty much all the main cast to return for a potential second season, including:

  • Amaka Okafor as Shahara Hasan

  • Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Charles Whiteman

  • Kyle Soller as Alfred Hillinghead

  • Shira Haas as Iris Maplewood

  • Tom Mothersdale as Gabriel Defoe

We would, however, say goodbye to Stephen Graham's character Elias Mannix as, spoiler alert, Elias ceases to exist when Shahara travels back in time to stop the bomb.

What might the plot of Bodies season 2 be?

The ending of Bodies (which we explained here, thank us later!) sees Shahara travel back in time to stop Elias from detonating the bomb, changing the future and meaning Elias now ceases to exist.

But, in the final scene, we see Shahara chatting with a taxi driver who turns out to be Iris Maplewood and the acronym 'KYAL' – standing for 'Know You Are Loved' – pop up in the London city skyline in the background.

So, season two could see Iris, Shahara and the rest of the detectives have to work together again to stop KYAL from existing at all. So exciting!

Bodies is streaming on Netflix now.
