Season 2 of You Is Coming to Netflix in December

Fans of the Netflix series You will be getting a slightly late Christmas present on December 26, 2019, when the thriller’s second season premieres on Netflix. The show’s star, Penn Badgley, announced the series’ premiere date along with an oh-so-mysterious teaser trailer:

The teaser doesn’t tell us much about the show’s second season, but season one left off with plenty of questions to be answered. Badgley’s character, a New York City bookstore manager named Joe Goldberg who ends up relentlessly stalking a love interest named Beck (Elizabeth Lail), found himself harassing, threatening, and doing much, much worse to anyone in his path, just to get to her.

Season two of You will feature brand-new character Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) as a new possible love interest for Badgley’s character, but the more pressing question is how Joe will evolve as a human being in the brand-new milieu of Los Angeles. Given that a cross-coastal move doesn’t seem like a bona fide way to reform a killer, we’re not expecting a redemptive arc for Joe this season, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Badgley having his hands full with You is certainly exciting, but does it spell doom for anyone who was hoping the actor might find his way to the Gossip Girl revival coming to HBO Max, also starring Kristen Bell as the eponymous narrator? Badgley and his former costars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester have yet to comment on whether they’ll rejoin the elite teen drama’s cast, but for now, at least we know we can binge-watch Badgley as an unrepentant sociopath on You while we rest up for New Year’s Eve.
