The Real Housewives of Atlanta is coming back for a 14th season, and it's bound to look different. Two of the show's longest-running housewives won't be returning after season 13, which concluded in May 2021 and is available to watch on Bravo.com.
After 11 seasons of appearing on the Bravo staple, Cynthia Bailey announced her departure from the Real Housewives of Atlanta in an Instagram post. Bailey thanked her fellow cast mates for "the most incredible & UNFORGETTABLE memories," which we got to see for the past decade. While Bailey didn't specify what her next chapter would entail, she promised it was coming: "I am anxiously waiting to embark on new adventures."
Days later, on September 30, Porsha Williams revealed she, too, wouldn't be returning to the show after appearing for 10 seasons. "This was a difficult decision to not only make, but also come to terms with,” Williams, whose memoir The Pursuit of Porsha will be released in November, wrote in an Instagram announcement. Some of Williams's (former) fellow housewives were surprised by the news. "I was hoping you weren’t 4real leaving. Wishing you the best on all you’ve got going on!" RHOA's Kandi Burruss commented on the post.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta is changing—but it's not going away. Here's what to know about the future of the show.
The 14th season will likely start filming in October of 2021.
In past years, the Real Housewives of Atlanta filmed in the summer and premiered in November. But season 14 is officially taking a departure from that pattern. In an interview with ET, Kenya Moore revealed the show will likely begin filming in October.
Premiering in December 2020, Season 13 was similarly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show's action proceeded differently due to safety precautions, too.
"People gave us a hard time, but people don't realize how hard it was to film,” RHOA star Kandi Burruss said on ET. "Normally we have a lot of events where we invite a lot of friends, do a lot of stuff like that. We weren't allowed to do any of that this year..and it took a long time before the season actually got jumped off because we didn’t really know who was going to be a part of the new season."
That means a release date will probably be in late 2021 or 2022.
We're not fortune tellers, but there's no way that season 14 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is coming out in November if it starts filming in October.
There will be a major "cast shake-up."
In early September, Kenya Moore promised a "cast shake-up" while speaking to ET's Lauren Zima: "Some new faces...and some old faces not there." Soon after, Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams confirmed their departures.
And other housewives may be leaving. In April, Burruss said on Access Hollywood that she's "always contemplating" when to make a move—but hasn't announced such a move yet.
As a result, Burruss is expected to be part of season 14's cast, alongside Kenya Moore and Drew Sidora. Part-timer Marlo Hampton may be upgraded to a full-time cast member. Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross is rumored to be joining the cast. Richards-Ross is a track-and-field athlete married to NFL cornerback Aaron Ross.
Shereé Whitfield, who was last a full-time cast member on season 10, may be returning. Whitfield recently reunited with her boyfriend, Tyrone Gilliams, who was released from prison in 2021 after serving 10 years for wire fraud.
Another rumored cast addition is Rozina Negusei, who is in a relationship with the singer Akon. Akon is reportedly legally married to Tomeka Thiam but is openly in relationships with other women, include Negusei. Thiam shut down rumors that she would be in the cast, referring to other women as Akon's "fake wives." Sounds like the next season of RHOA writes itself.
