Scream Queens' Keke Palmer Talks Kissing Girls on Snapchat & Texting Queen Latifah

How did ‘Scream Queens’ actress Keke Palmer avoid the all-too-common pitfalls of growing up a child star? “Whatever I do is going to be something I’m not afraid to tell my mother,” explains the 22-year-old star, who’s been acting professionally since the age of 12, in this episode of I Yahoo’d Myself.

She even stands behind her recent makeout sesh with Cassie, P. Diddy’s longtime girlfriend (of course, documented on Snapchat). Palmer’s mom was cool with that? “My mom says, 'If you want to date a woman, make sure she’s fine as hell!’” Keke tells host Nick Axelrod. “I’m like, 'Mom? For real?’” (Cassie certainly checks that box.)

On screen, Palmer also doesn’t mind a bit of controversy—or blood. “Scream Queens” creator Ryan Murphy has faced some backlash over Palmer’s sassy co-ed character, Zayday Williams, who some critics have charged is essentially one broadly painted stereotype. Palmer dismisses this accusations. “Me, as an African American woman, I love the role and I had a lot of fun with it. It’s comedy. And I don’t feel like my character is a racial stereotype,” she says. “She’s a black girl that’s a part of black culture. She’s an American black girl. She’s [Brandy’s iconic TV character] Moesha.
