If you were to survey your friends about their ideal way to spend a day off, many of them would likely express a desire to indulge in a day at the spa. What could be better than relaxing with a massage and a facial? How about doing this dream day with an adorable shelter dog?
That's exactly what actress Scarlett Johansson did, with a precious 12-year-old Pittie mix named Ocean.
The adorable date was shared on YouTube by The Dodo and the date with precious Ocean to showcase this adorable, adoptable dog took place in Queen, NY.
Johansson presented the sweet dog with a stuffed bouquet of roses while they visited the office of Scarlett’s skincare line, The Outset, where Ocean got to try out hydrating dog-friendly products.
In the video Johansson can be heard saying, "You know what? I think everybody is gonna see how amazing and playful and beautiful and cuddly you are! I think you're going to find a forever home pretty easily. "
The Muddy Paws Rescue NYC took in sweet Ocean from an overcrowded shelter and they posted her information on their Facebook page.
The post reads, in part, "Ocean's complete change in demeanor really says it all. In just a few short days, she went from scared and spooked, to a happy girl living her best life while waiting for her forever family."
Johansson using her platform to showcase this adoptable girl is just the best thing ever, and she obviously has a soft spot for dog adoptions, because The DoDo explains, "Scarlett has rescued two pups of her own over the years, Maggie and Pancake." But you don't have to be a fancy Hollywood A-lister to have your very own dog day date with a shelter dog in your own area!
Ideas For Shelter Dog Day Dates
Take a shelter dog out for a hike. This allows the dog a chance to explore new sights and smells while getting plenty of exercise and fresh air. You can also visit your local dog park for a rousing game of fetch or a jog, if you're into that sort of thing.
Have an outside picnic at a dog-friendly park with your shelter date and bring with fresh water and some dog friendly treats for them.
Take the shelter dog on a shopping trip to a pet store. Let them explore the aisles and pick out a new stuffed toy or treat.
Spend the day working on training and enrichment activities with the shelter dog. Teach them some simple tricks or just practice basic obedience commands like sit and stay.
Or just have a cuddle day! So many shelter dogs are overstimulated after being in a noisy shelter with unfamiliar smells and sounds and they just need a day to relax with lots of cuddles and petting. Sit on the sofa and let the pup nap and relax and feel what it's like to have a forever home.
Whatever you decide to do, taking a shelter dog out for the day is a wonderful way to socialize the pup and give them a break from the kennel.
Plus, it can pay off in the most wonderful way possible. The best part about this story? Ocean now has a forever family to call her own.
