Scared of her hair: Iran’s movement against forced hijab goes viral
Stephanie Sy profiles Masih Alinejad in this mini-doc. Alinejad is the woman behind a viral campaign in Iran to protest mandatory hijab. By law, women must wear headscarves or face fines or even imprisonment. Every Wednesday, women take to the streets of Iran and take off their hijab, record the act, and send it to Alinejad who posts it on her Instagram and Facebook pages. As her campaign grows, so too does the Islamic Republic's force of morality police. “They are scared of my hair. They are scared of my voice. They are scared of my body. Me, as a woman, can scare the whole regime,” Alinejad says.
