Savannah Guthrie Claps Back After a Troll Called Her Hair “Distracting” and “Unkempt”

From Prevention

  • Savannah Guthrie defended herself after a Twitter troll called her hair “distracting” and “unkempt.”

  • The Today host said TV anchors have been doing their own hair and makeup as they work remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Guthrie’s fans immediately came to her defense, pointing out how ridiculous and unnecessary the comment was.

News anchors have traditionally relied on having a full hair and makeup team to help them get TV-ready, but reporters have had to adjust to the way they work—often broadcasting from their own homes—due to the coronavirus pandemic. Today’s Savannah Guthrie has been in this boat since March, when she first set up a studio in her basement.

While most viewers have been totally understanding about this new normal, some have been not so friendly. On Tuesday, one such social media troll decided to comment on Guthrie’s hair (and we have to wonder if any of the men on her team have had to deal with similar comments).

“C’mon. With what they pay you, can’t you afford a hair stylist? I love the natural unkempt look but its distracting on @NBCNews national news,” the user tweeted.

Guthrie clapped back with a pretty simple response: “We are all doing our own hair and makeup during the pandemic. And yes it shows!”

The Today host’s fans immediately came to her defense, pointing out how ridiculous and unnecessary the comment was.

“I love your look! It has been so fun seeing more of all of you at home and with your families during this time. You are beautiful as always,” one user tweeted. “How DARE you not keep a hair stylist quarantined with you in your house! The audacity!” another person joked.

“Women reporters and anchors do their best to look good and it never seems to be enough. It’s not easy no matter the paycheck size,” wrote local news reporter Shannon Heckt. “Savannah works hard and looks great.” RT!

Guthrie, like the rest of us, has had to adjust to some changes during quarantine. In early May, the Today host shared an Instagram post as she dyed her hair at home with the help of her colorist on FaceTime.

She’s also fumbled with her mic on live TV, and her kids Charley and Vale hilariously crashed her show in April. “In the sixth week of home basement broadcasting, we’ve really broken the seal,” she said while laughing. “The duct tape on the door has been lifted, and here they are.”

Here’s to keeping it real, Savannah!
