An old newspaper report, in which Chris Noth's former girlfriend accused him of physically abusing her, has resurfaced on social media following fresh allegations that he sexually assaulted two women.

Noth, who is known for his role of Mr Big in Sex And The City and And Just Like That, reportedly dated supermodel Beverly Johnson from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s. In the newspaper clipping, which was shared by Diet Prada on Instagram, Johnson alleges that Noth first assaulted her in 1991 after they had been at a party in New York. According to the report, which is believed to be from The National Enquirer, the abuse continued until 1993 when Johnson ended the relationship.

The headline reads, "Shocking court papers claim top model battered by Law & Order star" and the article cites a source who claimed that Noth "threatened to kill [Beverly]" and "even threatened to kill [her] dog."

The source also alleges that one year after the pair split, in December 1994, Noth "broke into Beverly's home and beat her." As a result, Johnson filed a restraining order against her former boyfriend, although no criminal charges were brought against him.

The publication reported at the time that Johnson had told a friend: "I've never been so frightened in my life. I just can't believe that someone who had once been so tender and sweet could turn into this raging wild man."

Diet Prada's Instagram post quickly garnered widespread attention on the social media platform. "Believe women" one Instagram user wrote in the comments section, with another adding "How has this never been mentioned in alllll the years SATC was televised??"

The resurfaced article comes to light just one day after two separate allegations of sexual assault were made against the 67-year-old actor – although he has denied any wrongdoing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the alleged victims came forward after being triggered by Noth reprising his role as Mr Big in HBO's And Just Like That.

The women, who are using the pseudonyms Zoe (40) and Lily (31), are said to have come forward to The Hollywood Reporter independently and do not know one another. One alleges they were assaulted by Noth in in 2015 (during which time, if true, Noth would have been married to his wife Tara Wilson for three years) and the other in 2004 (by which point Noth and Wilson had been together for at least two years).

In response to their allegations, Noth says his encounters with both Zoe and Lily were consensual. When contacted for comment on the claims, he told The Hollywood Reporter: "The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross."

He continued, "The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women."

Cosmopolitan UK has reached out to Chris Noth's representatives who declined to provide further comment at this time.
