Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Whether She’d Star in a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot

PureWow sat down with the actress and mom of two on behalf of her partnership with Colgate Optic White (and yes, we can confirm that she has a gorgeous set of chompers, even those vampires would be jealous...) to chat about her upcoming projects (which include two new TV shows). So do any of those projects include the rumored Buffy reboot from Fox?

“Buffy was the story of the horrors of adolescence manifested through literal demons, and I think that was the beauty of it,” Gellar, 42, said. “I think reboots are great when they’re introducing a new generation to something they haven’t seen before. But, to me, when you have a show that holds up and is still affecting people and still holds that level of importance, I’m not really sure you need a reboot. For me, it doesn't work.”

Gellar is referencing the news from July 2018 via The Hollywood Reporterwhen 20th Century Fox Television confirmed that it was reviving the cult classic TV series, which ran from 1997 to 2003. Joss Whedon, who created the original series, is set to return as an executive producer. He will pen the script alongside Monica Owusu-Breen (Midnight, Texas), who will also act as showrunner on the reboot, although little about the project has been mentioned since.

Although she’s supportive of whatever Fox decides, Gellar said a reprisal isn’t in the cards for her.

“More power to them and I hope it totally works,” the former Cruel Intentions star said. “I think the arc that we told was so perfect.”

There you have it, ladies and vamps. Though don’t expect us to stop searching for reboot rumors every chance we get...
