If you've watched Sex And The City, you know that Carrie Bradshaw has had no shortage of Prince Charmings—and a few Prince Less-Than-Charmings—enter (and exit) her life. From Keith Travers to Aidan Shaw to Big himself (RIP), she was no stranger to romance.

But while Carrie may not have had the easiest time finding lasting love, the woman playing her, Sarah Jessica Parker, certainly did. In fact, she found love long before her character did when she married her husband, Matthew Broderick, a year before the hit TV show even premiered.

Another fun fact you may or may not already know: Prior to meeting Matthew, SJP dated "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. They met while acting alongside each other in the 1984 drama Firstborn, and they were a hot item until they split in 1991, giving way to her happily ever after with Matthew.

Sarah and Matthew (a.k.a. Ferris Bueller—yep, that was him in the infamous role!) have now been together for nearly 30 years. In that time, they've had three children: James, Tabitha, and Marion. Recently, the two made a rare red carpet appearance together with their son for the premiere of the Sex and The City HBO reboot, And Just Like That. The show, which premiered on December 9th, follows SJP as Carrie once again.

With 30 years under their belts, you can say Sarah and Matthew have lived quite a few major moments together. So, if you, ahem, couldn't help but wonder how these two have kept their love fresh for so long, here's the full timeline of Sarah Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick’s relationship from the very beginning:

November 1991: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick met.

The Divorce actress and The Producers actor crossed paths with a little help from SJP's brothers, Toby and Pippen. The brothers are co-founders of the Naked Angels Theater company where Matthew directed a play. Turns out, Sarah also had a strong interest in Broadway, and not long after her split with Robert Downy Jr., her brothers worked their magic and introduced the two.

March 1996: They performed on Broadway together.

The couple's shared love for Broadway took their connection to the stage when they starred in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying together. "I’m so nervous acting opposite him," Sarah told the Los Angeles Times at the time. "I don’t know how we’re going to manage this without laughing hysterically at each other. We do not discuss it. I don’t even want to rehearse—I’m going to go on stage with a big blinder on my head—I don’t know what I’m thinking." The show's debut also marked Sarah’s return to Broadway after a 16-year hiatus.

May 1997: The couple tied the knot.

On May 19, 1997, Matthew and Sarah planned and executed a surprise wedding at New York’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue. They hosted 100 guests and tricked them into believing they were going to attend an evening party. In a move you could say was so Carrie Bradshaw, a role she wouldn't take on until a year later, Sarah wore a black dress instead of a conventional white one.

October 2002: The pair welcomed their first child.

On October 28, 2002, Sarah and Matthew welcomed their son, James. In 2016, Sarah told Net-A-Porter’s The Edit, "If I could revisit one moment in my life, it would be the birth of my children, definitely."

June 2009: They welcomed twin daughters.

Seven years after the birth of their son, the couple welcomed their twin daughters, Marion and Tabitha. After unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant for some time, Sarah decided to have her girls via surrogate. In 2010 she told Vogue, "I would give birth as often as I could, if I could. I cherished all the milestones, the good and the bad."

December 2011: Sarah and Matthew got candid about their relationship.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Sarah revealed that while she and Matthew make married life look easy, it comes with challenges. "We’ve been together for 20 years, and you have good days, you have decent days, and you have bad days. That’s a marriage," she said. "If you’re in it for the long haul and you want meaningful relationships, you are going to go through lots of different periods."

November 2014: Matthew gushed about SJP on Meredith Vieira.

Matthew made a short appearance on the Meredith Vieira Show to talk about his (at the time) 17-year relationship with SJP. When asked about the secret to their happiness, he confessed, "We really are friends beyond everything else, and we talk a lot. Just keep talking I guess. I know how cliché that is. Too much silence is definitely not a good idea."

May 2017: The couple celebrated 20 years of marriage.

In a sweet Instagram post dedicated to her husband, SJP captioned her photo, "Monday May 19th, 1997. It flew by Baby. Good golly I love you. XXX, Your wife." In the picture, the two can be seen in an embrace with Sarah wearing her highly-talked-about black wedding dress.

January 2018: Sarah explained the benefits of time apart on Girlboss Radio.

In her interview with Sophia Amoruso for Girlboss Radio, the Hocus Pocus star shared that a little time apart isn't a bad thing: "His work life takes him here, and mine takes me there. In some ways, I think that that’s been enormously beneficial because we have so much to share in a way."

February 2020: SJP and Matthew announced their Broadway return.

Going back to their roots, the two decided to take the stage again. Their show, Plaza Suite, was set to premiere in March 2020. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the current date for preview performances has been set for February 25, 2022, with the official opening night set for Monday, March 28, 2022 at the Hudson Theatre.

In a joint statement to Deadline, the couple wrote, "We’re overjoyed to finally be able to welcome Broadway audiences to the Hudson Theatre to see Neil Simon’s celebration of New York, New Yorkers, and the wonderful ways they fall in love. We simply can’t wait."

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sarah also noted that getting to work with Matthew again after so many years was a journey in itself. "This is the first time since we’ve had three children that we…are even prepared [to work together]," she said.

March 2021: Sarah celebrated Matthew's birthday on Instagram.

In honor of Matthew’s 59th birthday, Sarah shared a blurry photo of a cake captioned, "Happy birthday Husband. We love you and we are oh so happy, grateful you were born. XXX, your SJ and 3 besotted young Broderick’s [sic]."

December 2021: Matthew and Jessica posed on the red carpet together.

To celebrate the premiere of And Just Like That, SJP brought Matthew and their son, James, to join her at the premiere party at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The three held hands and smiled as they posed for the cameras. Talk about a picture perfect family—and relationship!
