Sara Gilbert says goodbye to 'The Talk' with emotional farewell: 'Thank you for listening'

Sara Gilbert has officially exited The Talk.

Gilbert, who created the longtime CBS daytime fixture, said her final goodbye as host on Friday’s episode that was filled with special guests — including a surprise musical performance by Gilbert’s wife, Linda Perry and daughter, Sawyer Gilbert Adler — and emotional moments with fellow co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba and Eve.

“Whether you’ve agreed with me or not, you’ve let me into your homes and allowed me to have a voice.” Gilbert said on Friday’s show.

“This show has always been about community and connection and I want to thank you for letting me belong and thank you for listening.”

Several fans took to social media to share their appreciation for the longtime TV icon.

One commenter even compared Gilbert to popular daytime host Ellen DeGeneres.

Gilbert announced her exit in April, explaining she wanted to do other things at the time.

“This is something that I have been struggling with for a while, and going back and forth, but I’ve decided that it’s time for me to leave the show at the end of this season,” Gilbert said.

“I obviously love it here, and like I said, this was extremely difficult. Last season, I did The Conners and was also producing and [hosted] here. I loved it and felt totally empowered, but also, if I’m being honest about it, my life was slightly out of balance. I wasn’t able to spend as much time with my three kids as I’d like, or take time for myself.”

Marie Osmond will replace Gilbert as a co-host for Season 10 of The Talk.
