Sam Smith Is Ready to Become the Spice Girls’s Newest Member

After moonlighting as a glam gardener earlier this week, Sam Smith is on to his next project: bidding to become the sixth member of the Spice Girls. For anyone coming of age in the ’90s—especially in the U.K.—the Spice Girls were the decade's ultimate pop culture phenomenon, and Smith isn’t shy about showing his love for the plucky girl group online. Just yesterday, he smiled wide in a Spice Girls T-shirt in a photo he posted to Instagram.

Now, it seems the prospect of Smith joining the pop group isn’t an impossibility. Emma Bunton, who you might know better by her moniker Baby Spice, left a comment on the photo that read: “You’re bloody amazing!!!”, and if that’s not promising enough, when Smith followed up his Spice Girl fangirling with an unrelated video of him lying in bed singing “Over the Rainbow,” the official Spice Girls Instagram account left a comment comprised of a bunch of red emoji hearts. All he has to do next is come up with his own Spice Girls persona. Note to Smith: sporty, scary, spicy, and posh are all taken.
