He was her last public, long-term relationship and while they divorced rather recently, Sam Asghari responded to Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me in a rather unexpected way. We’re pleasantly surprised, actually. Spears was linked to Asghari after he appeared in her music video for “Slumber Party.” The two became engaged in September 2021 after five years of dating.

Spears and Asghari married on June 9, 2022, at their Los Angeles home, according to People. Sources told the magazine that the guest list included star-studded friends like Madonna, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore and Selena Gomez. Spear’s father, mother, sister, and children did not attend the popstar’s third wedding, as per TMZ. “Britney walked herself down the aisle. She looked absolutely stunning in her main dress,” an insider told People. “She cried happy tears at some moments.”

A year after their marriage, the two reportedly split. According to TMZ, Sam confronted Britney over rumors she stepped out on him. Sam has also reportedly moved out of their house and is now living in a place of his own. Sam Asghari responded to Britney Spears’ memoir by expressing his support for his ex-wife, who she called a “gift from God” in her book. “I knew I wanted him in my life immediately,” she wrote. “The chemistry with us in the beginning was insane. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other.”
When a TMZ photographer asked him if he was worried about what the pop star would reveal when The Woman in Me hit bookstores on October 4, 2023, he said: “No, I already read it,” Asghari said. “I’m very proud of her. She put a lot of work into it, and it was very hard. I’m definitely excited and I’m extremely proud of her. It was a really tough one … I’ll be the first one in line to buy it.”
A source previously told ET that Asghari was “thrilled” about the upcoming release. “Sam is thrilled that Britney finally has the opportunity and freedom to speak her truth with her book,” the source said. “He sees it as an opportunity for Britney to open up about what she has felt the need to address for far too long without being silenced or filtered.”
Ahead of the aubiography’s release, sources with direct knowledge told TMZ there won’t be any changes made to the memoir to reflect Asghari and Spears’ divorce. “We’ve spoken with someone directly involved with the book who tells us Sam is featured in it, but their relationship is not the main crux of her story — it’s more about Britney’s early life, career and journey out of her conservatorship,” the tabloid reported.

Why did Britney and Sam break up? According to TMZ, Sam cited the usual “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the marriage. The divorce documents reveal that “[Sam] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party.” The doc continued, “There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time.” He asked for spousal support and attorney fees.
TMZ first reported that Britney and Sam were on the rocks in June 2023. The site reported that Britney got in a physical fight with Sam and screaming matches were frequent. The site also reported that it became so “volatile,” that security has had to step in.
TMZ also reported in June 2022 that Britney and Sam signed a prenup stating that Sam wouldn’t receive any money Britney made before their wedding date if they divorced in the future.
Sam confirmed in an Instagram Story in September 2021 that he and Britney had plans to sign an “iron-clad prenup” after their engagement that month. His post came after thousands of fans, including actress Octavia Spencer, told Britney to sign a prenup before she married Sam. “Make him sign a prenup,” she commented on Britney’s engagement post at the time.
In response to the comments, Sam took to his Instagram to joke about how he and Britney planned to sign a prenup to “protect his jeep and shoe collection.” He wrote, “Thank you everyone who is concerned about The Prenup! Of course, we’re getting [an] iron-clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.” He accompanied his post with two laughing emojis.
