Friends don’t lie, and friends certainly don’t miss out on your debut return to Broadway.

On Monday, July 19, Stranger Things stars Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke surprised their co-star Gaten Matarazzo in his first performance of Dear Evan Hansen. The actor plays the role of Jared Kleinman in the Tony Award-winning musical, which continues its run at New York City’s Music Box Theater until its closing on September 18.

The Dear Evan Hansen Instagram account shared a carousel of some adorable photos of the trio after the show, and our hearts can hardly handle it. “Things got a bit strange on Broadway tonight! @sadiesink_ and @maya_hawke stopped by for @GatenM123’s first performance and a @strangerthingstv reunion,” the caption read.

Gaten is no stranger to the Broadway stage — before signing on as Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things, he starred in not one but two (!!) musicals. He made his debut in 2011 as Benjamin in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert then appeared in the 2014 revival of Les Misérables as Gavroche / Petit Gervais. Dear Evan Hansen marks his third production.

In a statement upon his casting announcement, he shared, “Words could never express how truly honored I am to be a part of this company. This show has taught me so much about myself and to be able to participate in any capacity, let alone on Broadway, makes me want to melt. I am ecstatic to be back on stage and eternally grateful for the opportunity.”

Sadie, too, is an alumna of the stage, having starred as Annie in Annie in 2013. Plus, Caleb McLaughlin — who plays her on-screen love, Lucas — played Young Simba in The Lion King.

So of course, all we’re thinking is, when will all these Broadway stars give us a musical number in Stranger Things?!
