'What a Sad Day': Social Media Reacts To 'Roe v. Wade' Getting Overturned
History is now set back 50 years. Maybe worse. In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, writing that there is no constitutional right to abortion and that the authority over access to such medical care would be returned to individual states. As a result, almost half of the states in the U.S. are expected to outlaw or restrict abortions. Some will do so immediately.
People filled the streets as well as social media feeds in response. From Dave Portnoy to Barrack and Michelle Obama, celebrities from both the left and the right weighed in with dismay at the decision. Several noted the implications of other rights—access to birth control and same-sex relationships and same-sex marriages—now hanging in the balance.
