Sabrina Carpenter does not want her new song, "Skin" to be misinterpreted, which is why she took to Instagram on Sunday to explain what inspired her to write the track and, no, it wasn't just Olivia Rodrigo.

"Thank you to everyone who has listened to skin," Sabrina wrote in the caption of an Instagram photo. "Especially those who have opened their minds to lyrically what I was trying to get across.

When the singer and actress initially released the track last week, many thought it was a response to Olivia's "Drivers License," and the lyrics seemed to back up that assumption. Now, Sabrina is clarifying what prompted her to write the song.

"I wasn’t bothered by a few lines in a (magnificent) song and wrote a diss track about it," Sabrina said, most likely referring to "Drivers License." "I was at a tipping point in my life for countless reasons. So I was inspired to do what I usually do to cope, write something that I wish I could have told myself in the past."

Sabrina reiterated that "the song isn’t calling out one single person," though she did admit that, "some lines address a specific situation." Others, however, "address plenty of other experiences I’ve had this past year."

It seems like, in general, Sabrina is tired of the back-and-forth going on in the news about her, Olivia, and Joshua Bassett, so she made this post to put an end to it. "I don’t want this to become an endless cycle so please don’t take this as an opportunity to send more hate anyone’s way," she said.

Speaking of Joshua, on Friday he took to his Instagram story to support Sabrina, sharing a shot of the song's cover art and writing, "Been stuck in my head since I heard it!!"

As of now, Olivia hasn't commented on Sabrina's song, and it's unclear if she ever will. Personally, I would love for this musical back-and-forth to continue, my Spotify playlist has really been benefitting from it.
