When Blake Lively was in labor, Ryan Reynolds failed to follow the one crucial rule of being in the delivery room: Don’t mess with the pregnant lady pushing a human being out of her vagina. No, instead Reynolds opted to play a prank on his beloved wife, and while we’re laughing now, it doesn’t seem like Lively thought it was very funny mid-delivery.
To try to lighten the mood while Lively was giving birth to their first child, Reynolds decided it would be a good time to play DJ, and picked the perfect song to commemorate the moment: Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get it On.” Clearly, it was not exactly the sexiest or most opportune moment for that kind of proposition, and at least one person in the room did not find it funny. (Spoiler alert: It was the pregnant lady pushing a human being out of her vagina.)
“It was like steak knives came out of her eyes,” Ryan explained to Seth Meyers last year during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “She was like, ‘Are you f*cking kidding me right now?!’” Reynolds swears that she was a “mercenary” who was “cracking jokes” the entire time she was in labor, and his attempt at a momentary sexual healing must have come at a bad time—namely, right in the middle of a contraction.
Until now, we’d only heard Reynolds’ side of this (hilarious) story, but in a recent interview with Michael Kors, Lively confirmed that it really did happen. “My doctor was laughing so hard I thought she was going to drop our baby,” she told Kors, who can hardly contain his own laughter at the thought of the ordeal.
The couple now has two daughters, 2-year-old James and 6-month-old Ines. Hopefully Reynolds came up with a better soundtrack for the birth of baby number two, or at the very least had enough ice chips on him to make up for his musical pranks.
