Ryan Reynolds Dishes Out His Romantic Backstory with Wife Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds dishes out his romantic game with Blake Lively, which led to their thriving marriage of nearly 10 years (and their status as one of our favorite Hollywood couples).

Speaking with cohost Jason Bateman on a SmartLess podcast episode released on Monday, the Deadpool star revealed the story of how he successfully won over his wife, starting from the beginning—the year "Blake and her little angel wings" first floated down into his life, as Bateman put it.

"I met Blake on the darkest crease in the anus of the universe called Green Lantern," Reynolds shared, referencing the set of the 2011 superhero film in which they costarred. "We were friends and buddies, and then about a year and a half later, we actually went on a double date but we were dating separate people."

Since then, the two "kept in touch but sort of casually," according to Reynolds. "Next thing you know, she was going to Boston, I was going to Boston, and I said, 'Well, I'll ride with you.' We got on the train and rode together," he said. "I was just begging her to sleep with me."

Reynolds jokingly added that his real first move looked more like a pity ploy: "I would use a little bit of tear stick so I would get the tears kind of rolling … then I would tell a little sob story about my life." Though, he also revealed the pivotal moment that, for him, changed their dynamic from casually dating to a lifelong commitment and that he describes as "one of those silly [moments] out of a fairy tale."

"A week later, I was like, 'We should buy a house together,'" he said. "And we did."

The now-married couple are going strong, sharing three daughters together: James, 6; Inez, 4, and Betty, 1. Though both remain private, aside from famously trolling one another on social media, Lively recently took to Instagram on Reynold's 44th birthday to publicly celebrate the occasion with an adorable, hilarious post.

Holding nothing back in the caption, she jokingly wrote, "1) Who is the lost soul that selects birthday PIE. 2) What ANIMAL eats their cake (pie) without first blowing out the candles. @vancityreynolds that's who."
