Ryan Gosling Gets Interrupted at SXSW so a Woman Can Propose

Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut is a total downer. The reviews have been far from glowing and the subject matter — a struggling single mom, played by Christina Hendricks, living in a bankrupt-like city — even more somber. But during the film’s premiere at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, a fan brought a little love.

After Lost River was screened, the cast participated in a question and answer session. When Gosling was onstage, a woman got up to seemingly pose an inquiry in regards to the movie but instead popped an entirely different question.

Heather McKay stood in front of a packed exhibition hall and asked her girlfriend of 11 years, Susan Dion, to marry her. McKay told the audience that after two years of long distance, the pair were finally together and wanted it to be for good this time around. She said: “I want the rest of my life to be with you,” Dion responded with “Yes!” and cue the “awws.”

McKay, elated and oh so polite, apologized for the interruption and let Gosling as well as co-stars Eva Mendes and Saoirse Ronan get back to the dark subject matter at hand.
