Jill Sheridan bought the store from Jenny Coffman in April 2020. In March 2021, it moved to an approximately 5,000-square-foot space on South Sixth Street.

Even though it was just around the corner from Main Street, Sheridan said there were issues with visibility and she was missed by shoppers. Additionally, she needed even more room as inventory and workshops expanded.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening was recently held for the new Rust Décor at 341 Main St., the former site of Coshocton Furniture and JC Penney. It's about double the size of the old location.

Renovations included new flooring, revealing of brick walls, construction of some rooms and replacement of lighting. Work started mid-December with contractor A&B Roofing and Construction of Conesville.

"Had this been available two years ago when we bought (the other building), we probably would have bought here, because we really wanted to be on Main Street. This is a prime location," Sheridan said. "It's weird to me, but being on Sixth Street was just enough off the beaten path that people missed us."

The old store had from 20 to 25 vendors. The new one has from 30 to 35 vendors. Sold are a variety of items such as furniture, jewelry, candles, clothing and much more. Sheridan and her mother also sell their own repurposed furniture and other merchandise. RUST stands for Reclaim, Upcycle, Salvage, Transform.

"Now, I can reach out to people I find with unique or different things to add to the community," Sheridan said of having more space. "That's been one of my goals since moving to a bigger space, that Rust Décor is a destination. You can come and spend a whole day here."

The store also features ceramics painting and craft making workshops. The workshop area can be rented out for parties with a provided activity. A coffee shop is slated to open upcoming.

The upstairs has seven offices that have been vacant since 2004. Sheridan's plan is to renovate and reopen them.

Her daughter will be joining in May as store manager and special events coordinator. There are also four part-time workers.

With Bexley Ann's Boutique having just moved into the old Goodwill building up the street and others investing in Main Street, Sheridan feels Downtown Coshocton could offer a shopping destination that could become a natural extension to Roscoe Village.

"It's not just the money, in my opinion, it's the care people are putting into it. It's awesome to see," Sheridan said. "It's fun to get into meetings with people like that who have a vision for the community and for Coshocton."

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Find out more at the Rust Décor Facebook page or call 740-295-9837.
