A Moscow swimmer is claiming a new world record for swimming beneath ice, after traveling a distance of 85 meters under the frozen surface of Siberia’s Lake Baikal on January 7.
Yekaterina Nekrasova’s entire feat was filmed by local Andrei Bugai.
Local media reported the record attempt occurred at an annual Orthodox Christmas swim meet on the lake, which is the world’s deepest.
Video shows Nekrasova’s underwater swim, achieved without a wetsuit or flippers. Although the new record was claimed, the Guinness Book of Records had yet to update its record. Credit: Andrei Bugai via Storyful
