Russia loses 220,000 troops in Ukraine – UK Defense Ministry

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, total personnel losses of the Russian military are as high as 220,000, UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces, James Heappey MP, told the Parliament on July 5. 

According to the ministry’s estimates, Moscow has also lost 6,200 pieces of military equipment in the war in Ukraine.

"We estimate that approximately 220,000 Russian military personnel have been killed or wounded since the start of the conflict," Heappey said in response to a question from Labour MP John Healey.

“We estimate over 6,200 Russian armored vehicles, including nearly 2,050 main battle tanks, 80 fixed wing aircraft, 95 helicopters, 250 unmanned aerial vehicles, 12 naval vessels of all classes, and over 1,000 artillery systems of all types have been destroyed since the start of the conflict.”

Heappey added that the exact number of casualties among the Wagner Group mercenaries is uncertain. However, the group likely sustained severe losses until the withdrawal of their forces from the Popasna and Bakhmut areas began in late May.
