Russell Westbrook donates car awarded at All-Star Game to L.A. family
Russell Westbrook’s trip to Los Angeles this week was a success, with the Oklahoma City Thunder making light work of both the Lakers and the Clippers in back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday.
While not on the court, the L.A. native found time to give back to his home town during the trip, which the Thunder made sure to document. Westbrook, who was born in Long Beach and attended high school in L.A. before playing at UCLA, donated the KIA SUV he won as the 2016 NBA All-Star Game MVP to a family in need.
Going home & giving back. For @russwest44, the trip to LA this week was about more than basketball. #whynot @launitedway @stjosephctr @whynotfdn #RussellsReadingRoom #NBAVote pic.twitter.com/fhY1ITSIy5

Westbrook worked with the United Way in his charitable effort. A UW spokesperson said that the family who received the car had four children and another on the way and recently saw the family car break down.
It’s not the first move like this by Westbrook, who gave his 2015 All-Star MVP award to a single mother in Oklahoma City.

It’s a class move by Westbrook, whose surly reputation on the court and at the media podium often overshadows acts like this.
