After a busy start to the month – which saw Her Majesty mark 70 years on the British throne with a four day bank holiday weekend – the Queen has been enjoying some well-deserved downtime in recent weeks. Now, she's made her first appearance since her record-breaking Platinum Jubilee, visiting Edinburgh to mark the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace Holyroodhouse.

Alongside a clip of the engagement shared to the Royal Family's Instagram account, the caption read: "Holyrood Week 2022 has begun with the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. During the ceremony, The Queen was symbolically offered the keys to the City of Edinburgh by the Lord Provost on the day of her arrival."

The caption went on, "The ancient ceremony marks the beginning of Holyrood Week, or 'Royal Week' as it is known in Scotland: a week-long celebration of Scottish people and Scottish culture which will see an Investiture and Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse as well as Royal visits across the country."

As well as admiring the festivities, royal fans flocked to the comments section to point out how well Her Majesty looks, especially given her recent bout of ill-health which forced her to pull out of several high profile events at the last minute and saw her use a walking stick for the first time in decades.

"Love seeing the Queen... she looks great", one royal fan commented on the clip, with another adding, "HMQ looks amazing". Someone else commented, "Good to see the Queen looking so well!" with a fourth royal fan writing: "It means the world to me to see the Queen looking so well in beautiful Scotland today. At 96 the Queen still lights up the room with her lovely smile."

Earlier this month, Her Majesty shared a heartfelt message with fans thanking them for their ongoing support. "When it comes to how to mark seventy years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first. But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee," she said in a statement posted to the Royal Family's Twitter account.

"I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope tis renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come," the Monarch added. "I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations."
