Over the past few years, it's become a Christmas tradition for the royal family's team of chefs to share their traditional recipes. This year, once again, the royal chefs have shared their tried-and-true method for whipping up a perfect traditional Christmas pudding, and it looks tastier than ever.

On November 21st, the full recipe was posted on the royal family's official Instagram account, along with a step-by-step how-to video. "Today is Stir-up Sunday: traditionally the day when home cooks ‘stir up’ their Christmas pudding mixture on the Sunday before the Advent season—and the countdown to Christmas—begins," the caption explains. "This year, chefs in the Royal kitchens have shared their recipe for a traditional Christmas pudding. We hope that some of you enjoy making it in your own homes."

The recipe calls for the dry ingredients to be mixed together first (that's dried fruit, suet, breadcrumbs, flour, sugar and spices), and then to add the eggs and alcohol before placing the pudding mix in bowls, covering them with parchment paper and muslin, and heating them in a saucepan. Get the full instructions and ingredient list below.

An added benefit of this recipe is that it's designed to be pre-made—rather than adding it to a Christmas Day to-do list, simply make it in advance and reheat. As the caption explains, "On Christmas Day, reheat your pudding in a bain-marie for 3-4 hours. Remove from the basin using a rounded knife or palette knife, flip out onto a plate, garnish or flambé and serve with brandy sauce and cream."

In case you're unfamiliar, Christmas pudding is a staple of the British Christmas dinner table that dates all the way back to medieval times. It's sometimes referred to as plum pudding, but confusingly doesn't contain any actual plums – back in the 15th century, "plum" was a blanket term used to refer to any dried fruit like raisins or currants, which are used liberally in the recipe.
