The Royal Family Honors Prince Philip on Instagram With One of the Queen's Sweetest Quotes About Him
The royal family is honoring Prince Philip's memory.
On Saturday, the official royal family Instagram account shared a touching tribute to the late royal. The post included a picture of Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, his wife of 73 years, along with a sweet quote from the Queen's speech marking the couple's 50th wedding anniversary.
"He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know," the Queen said in the excerpt from the speech shared in the caption of the photo.
The accompanying photo in the post was taken five years ago by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz and shows the Queen and Philip posing side-by-side in coordinating pink shirts for an official portrait.
"At The Queen's Coronation in 1953, The Duke of Edinburgh swore to be Her Majesty's 'liege man of life and limb,'" the post's caption continued. "The Duke was a devoted consort (companion to the Sovereign) for almost 70 years, from Her Majesty's Accession in 1952 until his death."
The official royal family website has dedicated its home page to information about the Duke of Edinburgh, including articles about his early life, his marriage to the queen and time spent as the country's longest-serving consort, as well as information about his funeral arrangements and how royal fans can send messages of condolence to the queen and other members of the royal family.
