Royal Experts Believe Princess Charlotte Will Inherit This Title From a Family Member — But Question If She'll Want It

Based on tradition, royal experts suspect Princess Charlotte is likely to inherit a title from a senior family member when her father, Prince William, is crowned king. However, there are also some doubts that the young princess may not want the title held for a royal of her stature.

Jennie Bond, a royal commentator, spoke with Express about Charlotte’s future role in the monarchy. Bond explained that as William’s eldest (and only) daughter, the 8-year-old is automatically entitled to the Princess Royal title once he is king and Princess Anne, the current title holder, has passed.

Though the role is traditionally bestowed upon the monarch’s eldest daughter by the king himself, Bond wonders whether or not Charlotte will actually want the title when the time comes.

It’s no secret that the royal family has been embracing a more modern model since Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and Bond believes the monarchy will continue in that direction as William gets closer the ascending the throne. “I think we will be in a very modern era … [and] I question whether Charlotte will want to be burdened with more titles,” the expert explained. Bond mused, “She might be a working woman by then. Things could change so much in the next generation.”

The older she’s gotten, the more Charlotte has joined her parents and elder brother Prince George during public appearances. Bond and other experts speculate this to be a sign that the 8-year-old is being trained to act as an advisor to George once he becomes king. Whether or not Charlotte wants to fill those shoes, only time will tell — and we’ve likely got many years until then.
