  • A royal blog criticized Prince George for his 6th birthday photos.

  • His birthday photos also attracted some drama when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry commented on them.

If, for some reason, you don’t have Prince George’s birthday marked on your calendar like a super royal stan, just know that he celebrated his sixth year of life on Monday. To mark the big occasion, the little prince put everyone’s Chuck E. Cheese parties to shame and went on vacation—or holiday, as the Brits call it—to Mustique, a private island in the Caribbean. Plus, Kate Middleton and Prince William released three pictures of him to show how much he’s grown. They’re truly adorable, but there’s a royal blog that is being so nitpicky about the pics right now.

Earlier this week, the Gert’s Royals blog, which can count reputable royal reporters Katie Nicholl and Rebecca English as followers, zeroed in on the soccer jersey Prince George was wearing in two of the photos. To them, it was another “England centric” example of how the royal kids are being raised. They tweeted, “Today’s birthday photos were definitely England centric w/ Prince George wearing an England @FA shirt.” (For the record, Prince William is the president of the Football Association, so there’s extra meaning behind George wearing the jersey.)

They also made the point that the royal kids never have any photo ops in other regions of the United Kingdom. “But in fact, all the UK photos/appearances of Cambridge kids have been in England,” the blog added. “We have yet to have an official photo/appearance in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.”

Unlike when a bunch of trolls collectively bashed Meghan and Harry for their birthday wish to George, pretty much everyone agreed that this blog was reaching when they pointed out George’s jersey. This comment pretty much sums it up:

But even so, Gert’s Royals reached out to clarify that there was no harm meant. In a statement to Cosmopolitan, they said:

“I have nothing against Prince George wearing a England Football shirt, nor was I going after him or his parents for the photo. My comment was not about that specific photo but just a general comment that out of the 50+ appearances/photo of the Cambridge kids over six years, we have never gotten a photo/official appearance in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. This, to me, seemed a little odd given that they are equal import part of the UK, and the Cambridges lived in Wales during the early years of their marriage and visit the Queen in Scotland each summer.”

Still, give the kids some time to rack up those miles!
