Anyone feeling nosy about what Kate Middleton and Prince William’s relationship is like behind closed doors, please listen up because royal author Tom Quinn is spilling. In his new book Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, Quinn writes that—much like any other couple—William and Kate have some tension in their marriage.

“Someone at the Palace told me about the nicknames they have for each other,” Quinn revealed while chatting about the couple’s relationship, via OK! magazine. “But it’s not all sweetness.” He went on to add in part that “they have terrible rows” and that “Kate might seem to be a very calm person, and William also. But it’s not always true.”

Quinn notes that the “big stress for William and Kate is that they’re constantly surrounded by [Palace aides]. It’s like a Jane Austen novel.”

Despite occasional issues including “shouting” and “saying unkind things,” Quinn says that “Kate is very much the calm one. William is the one who’s a bit hotheaded. Kate is very level-headed. She’s the one who will pour oil on troubled waters and go, ‘Let’s not stir things up.’”

He also claimed that the Prince and Princess of Wales “want to be seen as an ordinary couple with the same stresses of having children, work, and everything else that life brings.”

I mean, every couple gets into the occasional argument and says things they regret, so “ordinary couple” mission accomplished?
