Rothy’s is best known for its machine-washable flats—which are popular among regular shoppers and Duchesses alike. But for its next move, the San Francisco–based brand is actually coming for your fall wardrobe.
Launched today, The Chelsea is Rothy’s first boot style that enlists the brand’s signature recycled and repurposed materials, this time in an easy slip-on silhouette.
One of the most impressive parts of the Rothy's business is its commitment to sustainability. Since its inception, the brand has been weaving its signature styles from recycled plastic fibers (not that the naked eye can tell) and focusing on production that puts minimal stress on the environment. But chances are greater its reputation is more closely tied to Rothy’s most famous fan: Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex has famously worn the brand’s pointed-toe style on more than one occasion.
Whereas the Duchess prefers the brand’s signature flats, the latest style looks similar to the popular lug-sole-silhouette trend so prominent on the Fall 2019 runway. The sustainable make-up remains the same, though.
The new Rothy’s boots offer a comfortable, walkable silhouette and come in a range of color and patterns fit for an array of occasions. The classic white or black easily pair with skirts or trousers for a more office-ready look, while the bolder leopard print or arctic blue shades offer a playful (and likely more sustainable) alternative to your typical jeans-and-boots look.
Best yet, the Chelseas, like other Rothy’s styles, are machine-washable—kind of a nice alternative to the leather and suede boots you meticulously spray each season with a stain protector. Each style retails for $145, and is available in sizes 5 to 13 (with half sizes).
