Corsets. We can’t keep up with them. They used to be worn under gowns to enhance a woman’s figure — or kill her slowly, depending on how you look at it—then they became a visible part of the dress, even shirts on their own. Now, they are worn casually with comfy pants as if they aren’t cutting off the person’s circulation. It’s like you can just throw it on like any other plain tee.
Exhibit A: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attended the NIRAV MODI Old Bond Street boutique launch on Monday night in London. She wore a sheer black strapless corset with a zipper up the front paired with super loose black parachute pants that rested on her hips revealing a bit of the model/actress’s taut abs. Even though she wore a ton of bling to the jewelry store opening, including a diamond necklace and dangling earrings, she looked super laidback, with a black blazer hanging loosely off her arms (in case she suddenly felt self-conscious…?). It looks as if the blonde was lying on her couch in her lounge pants and corset, looked at the clock at 8:05 p.m. and realized she was late so she threw on some diamonds and ran out the door. Typical Saturday night for us.
She’s not the only one who’s reviving the corset in a casual way. The Kardashian clan is a big fan of the Victorian style, and not just for waist training. Just a few days ago, Kim stepped out in a lacy black corset and ripped jeans. In July, she was traipsing around Los Angeles in a leather corset over the ultimate casual outfit: an oversize black T-shirt and cropped black leggings.
Next, we’ll be seeing corsets with hoodies and TevUggs.
