Every year, makeup lovers look forward to one of the industry's biggest reveals: the latest MAC Viva Glam lipstick and its ambassador. Although the world looks a bit different right now, nothing can alter the enthusiasm for this 26-year tradition — especially since the always-gorgeous lip color and star-studded announcement is complemented by Viva Glam's philanthropic mission. And this year, it's Barcelona-born singer-songwriter Rosalía, who's joining the famous Viva Glam fam.
Rosalía could not be more excited about the opportunity. "When I used to experiment with makeup, I didn't even know what I was doing. I was just having fun with my sister. We used to use my mom’s makeup," she tells Allure exclusively. "When I was a teenager, I used to do my makeup for my shows, and getting ready was a ritual. That's part of my memory with makeup, and I have always been a fan of MAC."
The riveting performer and producer was a clear choice for Viva Glam ambassador. "The Grammy Award-winning artist has established herself globally as a unique, dynamic feminist who inspires self-expression and represents creativity and individuality — all values that are core to MAC's Viva Glam mission," the brand said in a statement.
That mission sees 100 percent of the lipstick selling price go toward fighting for equal rights for women, girls, and the LGBTQ+ community, all the while maintaining what it may be best known for: decades-long support for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Rosalía shared her excitement on Instagram, writing: "I am so blessed to be part of the #MACVIVAGLAM campaign as the newest Global ambassador for @maccosmetics This campaign has inspired me since I was a young girl because 100% of the lipstick selling price goes towards local organizations to help those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, supporting women and girls and helping the LGBTQIA+ community. Lipstick out in Sept! ❤️❤️❤️"
This year's Viva Glam Lipstick is a stunning matte red that would be hard to resist even without the additional motivation of knowing that the price you pay for it goes directly to supporting causes and communities that need it. But this year is even more special, and not just because of Rosalía. Earlier this year, MAC — with the help of previous Viva Glam ambassador Miley Cyrus — announced that the charitable campaign would be dedicating $10 million to 250 organizations fighting on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
