There’s an upcoming WWE superstar in the making as the company announces they’ve signed Simone Johnson to their roster. The 18-year-old daughter of Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson, has some big shoes to fill, but she’s up for the task.
Simone is now a fourth-generation WWE star, following a long lineage of wrestlers starting with her father, her grandfather, Rocky Johnson, and her great-grandfather, “High Chief” Peter Maivia. Both her grandfather and great-grandfather are WWE Hall of Famers, and her Dad also happens to be a 10-time WWE world champion.
She began training part-time at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, last year, but she’s leveled up and is training harder now. “It means the world to me,” Simone said in a press release. “To know that my family has such a personal connection to wrestling is really special to me, and I feel grateful to have the opportunity, not only to wrestle but to carry on that legacy.”
Her dad is supportive of her decision to go into sports and lean more into the public eye. He told Good Morning America in 2018 that he “loves” the idea of her decision to pursue a career like his.
“I love the idea. We had this big conversation, she came with me to Hong Kong [and] Beijing,” The Rock said in 2018. “I said, ‘Honey, whatever your passion is, I support that.’ And wrestling was good to me; I started my career in Madison Square Garden. So, yeah, bring it on, she’s going to be a champ.”
WWE is excited to have her on board as well.
“Not only does Simone now have an opportunity to cultivate and display her passion for WWE within the Performance Center, but she’ll carry on the tradition of her incredible family lineage while creating her own impact as WWE’s first fourth-generation Superstar,” WWE executive vice president Paul “Triple H,” Levesque said in a statement.
Simone seems like she has a great work ethic and isn’t afraid to put in the hard work needed to make it to champ level one day. We’re cheering her on!
