The bullpen isn’t the only thing the Colorado Rockies have been rebuilding this winter. As the team announced on Wednesday, a brand new mountain-shaped scoreboard will be debuting at Coors Field this spring, and based on the early renderings it’s going to be epic.

According to the team, the scoreboard is 8,369 square feet, which is 258 percent larger than the scoreboard it’s replacing. That’s the equivalent of 784 60-inch televisions.

In other words, it’s going to be massive. But it’s the unique design that will undoubtedly have everyone talking.

The Rockies will officially unveil the new scoreboard when they open their home schedule against the Atlanta Braves on April 6. As you’ll see in one of the photos, they’re predicting victory that day.

That might not be an official jab at Atlanta, but it’s kind of fun considering the Braves renderings for SunTrust Park several years ago showed them losing to the Nationals.

“The new scoreboard, I’m hoping, will last 15 years. The last one lasted 10,” owner Dick Monfort told the Denver Post last March, right after the Rockies signed a $200 million, 30-year lease.
It’s one of several improvements the team has planned for the upcoming season.

Here’s more from the Denver Post:

The ballclub, embarking on its 25th anniversary season in 2018, is also making other improvements to Coors Field. New “ribbon scoreboards” have already been installed on the facades around the ballpark, and an improved sound system is on the way, too.

The projects were voted on and approved on Sept. 20 by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District and funded by the Rockies pursuant to its new 30-year lease agreement.

Despite opening in 1995, Coors Field is already the third oldest ballpark in the National League. In fact, Atlanta has opened two new stadiums since then. Nonetheless it’s still viewed as one of the nicest stadiums in the entire league. Now the Rockies just need a little on-field success to match the home run they’ve hit with their ballpark.
