Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs Have Broken Up
Robert Pattinson and singer FKA Twigs have officially ended their engagement, The Sun and E! News report.
The two had been dating for three years; reports of their engagement broke in April 2015. A source told E! News that their travel schedules "took a big toll" on the relationship and that Pattinson initiated the split.
While Twigs reportedly moved out of their shared house, the couple still has "love for each other," a second source said.
In the aftermath of the breakup, Pattinson has reportedly been leaning on his longtime friend Katy Perry, a third source told the outlet. (Nothing romantic is happening between them right now, the source stressed, despite tabloid gossip otherwise.) "They talk on the phone regularly and make sure to see each other when they both aren't away working. Katy has always been a good friend to Rob over the years and has been there for him emotionally."
"She wants to make sure he is doing okay," the source added. "Rob knows how good of a friend she is and he was also there for her when she was going through her divorce. They lean on each other."
Back in July, Pattinson discussed his relationship with Twigs on The Howard Stern Show calling her "amazing" and "super talented." When Stern asked if the two were engaged, Pattinson replied, "Yeah, kind of."
During the interview, Pattinson said he was very protective of his relationship with Twigs: "It's one of the most frustrating things in the world because you want to be able to do that [show PDA], but to get kind of stuck in a position where, like, you have to make the decision... Do you want to let kind of crazy people in, because for whatever reason with Twilight, there's like, a crack troop of crazies who think every decision you're making is creating some kind of conspiracy. And so you kind of think, to protect it, I want to create a big boundary between it, but then it makes it difficult for your actual relationship."
Twigs also revealed to the New York Times that dating Pattinson came with its own difficulties, namely social media abuse. "It's really hard - I can't begin to explain how awful it is," she said. "It makes you want to just stop everything sometimes. It makes you want to smash your face into the mirror."
