There are plenty of actors who are looking more distinguished and handsome than ever as they get older. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Timothy Olyphant, Idris Elba, Daniel Craig, to name just a handful. But there are far fewer male celebrities who appear to simply not be aging, or if they are, at a significantly slower rate than their peers. And after Paul Rudd (long established to be the Dorian Gray of Hollywood), the second best example has to be Rob Lowe.

The actor, 57, recently illustrated just how well the passage of time is treating him in a recent throwback post on Instagram, in which he mimics a photo from one of his early film roles. "911: Lonestar 2021 vs Youngblood 1985," Lowe captioned the photo, asking: "Who wore it better?"

Look, we're not being naive here. Yes, there is clearly a difference between the fresh-faced Lowe of the mid-'80s and the 57-year-old man currently playing firefighter captain Owen Strand in 9-1-1: Lone Star. But you have to hand it to the guy; he is working incredibly well with what he's got.

Lowe credits his youthful appearance not to genes, or some Faustian pact, but to a rigorous exercise routine and a low-carb, high-protein diet, as well as judicious skincare (he has even founded his own men's skincare line). He first discovered a passion for fitness while playing a would-be pro athlete in the aforementioned hockey movie Youngblood—"It was the first time I ever had a trainer and did proper weight work," he told Men's Health in 2019—and exercise later became an important part of his recovery when he got sober in 1990.

Now surfing is his go-to method for staying fit and avoiding a dadbod, which he admits to having been worried about in the past. "Men deny having vanity—that’s the greatest vanity," he said. "Not me. I'm vain as fuck."
