The new Dyson Airwrap Complete Styler is finally here, and summer hair has never looked better. The brand, known for its powerful vacuums and hair tools, announced in March that its best-selling multi-styling tool would be revamped. And somehow, the brand made the tool even better—which we didn’t know was even possible, considering the original tool broke the Internet and sold out several times since its launch in 2018.

How Is the New Dyson Airwrap Complete Different?

Dyson didn’t just slightly tweak the tool; the brand made several major updates. One of the biggest upgrades (and most requested by Airwrap devotees) to the tool was made to the curler attachments. With the new generation, you can curl your hair clockwise and counterclockwise with the same attachment. That’s right—there’s no need to change attachments to curl in different directions. Plus, the favorite round brush attachment now comes in two sizes for an array of voluminous styles.

The new tool even has the answer to pesky flyways. Simply twist the rough-dry tool attachment to activate the flyaway mode to smooth hair for a sleek finish.

If you’re already a fan of the Airwrap, here’s the best news: The new attachments are compatible with the original model.

How I Tested It

I have been using my original Dyson Airwrap for almost two years now, so when I put the new iteration to the test, I had high expectations. I went through the same routine I typically go through with my Airwrap: After spritzing a leave-in to protect my strands, I started with the rough-dry tool to get it almost dry, and then moved on to the new straightening brushes. The updated brushes have a new design that allows airflow through the center of the paddle brush. I noticed that my hair dried faster than with the previous straight brushes.

With the original Airwrap, I would rarely use the curler attachments because of the time-consuming nature of switching out the barrels. But I gave it a whirl with the new generation and have a newfound love for the curlers. I created a bouncy blowout and made sure to use the cool shot for 10 seconds (this is recommended by the brand to ensure a style holds). For the last step, I used the new smoothing mode on the rough-dry tool to get rid of any pesky flyaways.

Ease of Use

Without a doubt, the revamped version is way easier to use than the original. The upgraded paddle brushes transformed my curly, frizzy hair to sleek straight strands within minutes. I love to switch the direction of my curls with each strand, and the new curling tools take the guesswork out of styling. Plus, I used the longer barrels for the first time, and they are a game changer for my newly grown-out pandemic style.

The tool I was most excited to test was the smoothing mode to get rid of flyaways. It took a few tries to master which direction the air should flow for each side. But once I got the hang of it, it worked like magic as a finishing touch to any style.

The Verdict

Though this new iteration of the Airwrap is innovative, only a few attachments in the portfolio boast a significant difference. If you are already a Dyson fan, I’d recommend investing in the revamped attachments. And if you’re looking to try the Airwrap (or have been on the month-long wait list), then definitely purchase the newer version, as it’s easier to use than its predecessor.

Final Rating: 4.5

Overall, it works great for frizzy, wavy hair like mine, but also adds mega volume to straight, thinner hair. I can even style my entire head in less than a half hour, which is a testament to the tool. Yes, it’s pricey. But if you fall into any of these categories, it’s worth investing in.

The new Dyson Airwrap is available to shop for $599 online at dyson.com, or you can buy the attachments for $35 each.
