Riverdale may be a dark, brooding TV show about teens who deal with death more than they do with homework, but off-camera, the fun never stops. Industry newcomer, Trinity Likins, quickly discovered this when she joined the show on season 3 as Jellybean Jones, younger sister to Cole Sprouse's Jughead Jones and daughter to Skeet Ulrich's FP Jones. Gina Gershon also joined the series on the same episode as Trinity, playing the Jones matriarch, Gladys.
Understandably, Trinity was "pretty nervous" her first day on set, but running into KJ Apa, who plays Archie Andrews, quickly assuaged any anxiety. After that, she met her onscreen brother, Cole. "He’s the best. We’re super close, and it was really great meeting him," Trinity told Seventeen.com. "I’ve looked up to him for a while as an actor, photographer, and person, so it’s really cool to meet him that first day. He’s super funny, so that helped."
Since then, Trinity has seamlessly become one of the Riverdale gang, sharing how she and the rest of the Jones family are constantly laughing and telling stories in between takes.
A quick peek at her Instagram shows a cute pic of the Joneses, but if you look closely, you'll see Trinity tagged Cole as his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse.
No, she doesn't have the brothers confused. She confirmed that it's an inside joke between her and Cole. "A lot of people got mad about that [photo tag], but we just tease him about that," Trinity admitted, laughing. Honestly, that is so something a little sister would do.
But Trinity doesn't just poke fun at her TV brother; sometimes she plays tricks on her onscreen parents, too. She and Cole have teamed up to prank Skeet and Gina a few times, such as using fake cigarettes. Though she didn't go into detail on how the prank went down, we can only imagine Gina and Skeet's reactions. This family may be divided on TV, but they're tight off-screen.
Besides getting into shenanigans with Cole, Trinity goofs off with KJ on set. She shared a fun, behind-the-scenes story that happened on her first day. They were filming at a car junkyard that had a tall metal structure. The lighting was hitting all the right angles, so Trinity encouraged KJ to climb it so Cole could get some cool shots.
As KJ climbed the epic structure and Cole snapped photos, an assistant director also was in charge of safety understandably started freaking out and urging KJ to climb back down before he fell. (I mean, Archie gets beat up on the show all the time, so if he did accidentally fall and end up breaking something, it would be a pretty Archie thing to do. Just saying.)
KJ assured the AD he was fine, then told Trinity to climb up with him. So she started ascending the structure, while this poor AD yelled, "No, no, no! You’re a minor!" Luckily, no one got injured, but like I said, it would've been a fairly on-brand thing to happen for these characters who constantly laugh in the face of danger.
As for the new season the cast is currently filming? Trinity is excited to explore Jellybean's relationship with Jughead and FP, now that Gladys is out of the picture. She'd also like to see how Jellybean will react or get along with the other characters, since she's mostly just hung out with the Jones family, Archie, and Ricky DeSantos (Nico Bustamante).
Speaking of Ricky, many fans ship Jellybean and Ricky, but Trinity isn't sure she feels the same way. "I think their friendship is cute and if his character comes back [it] would be interesting to explore," she said. "I mean, he did try to kill her, so I don’t know if she likes him that much anymore." Fair point.
As for what's in store overall for the new season, all Trinity could share so far was that the first episode will be dedicated to Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews until his untimely death earlier this year.
When the cast first started filming season 4 this month, they honored their fellow co-star. Mädchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper, posted a group photo on Instagram with the caption, "There was nothing but love, memories and mourning for our beloved Luke as we honor him in our first episode back ❤️."
While that episode (like the rest of the season) will be bittersweet, we can't wait to see how the Trinity and the rest of the Riverdale family honor their friend.
