A month after Forever 21 filed for bankruptcy and announced it would be closing 178 of its more than 500 U.S. stores, it appears its beloved beauty offshoot, Riley Rose, will also be shutting shops — all of them.
A new report by WWD indicates that as part of parent company Forever 21's Chapter 11 filing, Riley Rose locations in the U.S. will go from more than 100 to zero — this according to court documents filed earlier this week. The beauty boutique, which was launched in 2017 by Forever 21's founder's daughters, Linda and Esther Chang, has reportedly informed the brands sold in its stores, which include Pacifica, Dermalogica, St. Tropez, and Tonymoly, among many others popular names.
And it's not just the brick-and-mortar stores that are closing. A visit to rileyrose.com results in a pink box with an animated "WE ARE MOVING!" gif, followed by news that orders have ceased online. However, a "Beauty by Riley Rose" tab has popped up on forever21.com, where you can find what appears to be a wide array of makeup, hair, and skin-care products from many (if not all) of the brands previously sold on Riley Rose's website.
But these store and website closings don't mean the end of Riley Rose entirely. Just like how the website says Beauty by Riley Rose is now found on Forever 21's website, WWD reports that some of the remaining Forever 21 stores will be getting Riley Rose sections, though it's not clear when and which of the locations will get this new beauty department. And the brand is putting a positive spin on the changes, announcing it on Instagram on Friday, November 1, with a pretty pink graphic and the caption, "We have officially moved! Head to our NEW online home located on the BEAUTY BY RILEY ROSE tab @ forever21.com where you can continue to purchase your fave products! 💖"
